Help the Homeless
Program
At Caring Hand, we understand that addressing hunger requires a collective effort. In January 2022, we launched The Lunch Bunch initiative to support individuals in our local communities who are experiencing homelessness. The causes of homelessness vary and can stem from mental health challenges, sudden job loss, lack of a support system, or simply a series of unfortunate events.
In addition, we support Project Gary, which began in March 2022 when Gary dedicated himself to helping those less fortunate or going through difficult times. Starting with efforts to support the homeless population of Downtown Los Angeles in partnership with the Fred Jordan Mission, Project Gary now focuses on the San Fernando Valley through a collaboration with Hope Rescue Mission and Caring Hands for Children. Project Gary provides a range of support services, including haircuts, cookout events, a Fourth of July BBQ, Thanksgiving dinner, shoes, and backpacks to multiple locations within Hope Rescue Mission’s homeless shelters.
We began our efforts with 150 sandwiches for one organization. Now, our areas of service include Santa Monica, San Fernando Valley, and Ventura County. Currently, we are proud to continue our mission by serving between 800 to 1000 meals per month. Each meal represents more than sustenance; it signifies a step towards positive change and renewed hope.
We actively collaborate with local partners to foster community support and address issues at their roots. Together, we’re not just providing meals—we’re building a network of compassion and assistance.
“We were stunned by the overwhelming response from people who want to help,” says Renu Chopra, who leads the initiative.
“We look forward to it every month. It’s for a good cause, and lots of fun. I feel grateful for the opportunity to help.”
